Headlines
In Markdown headlines are marked with one or more #-character at the beginning of the line. So a top level headline in Markdown is done like
# My top level headline
And a subsequent 2nd level headline would be
## My subsection headline
and so on. We support headlines down to level 6.
A top level headline technically creates a new chapter file in your EPUB file. EPUB files are a set of xhtml files and assets like stylesheets and images. Splitting up larger book projects into seperate files, makes the ebook more manageable for ebook readers.
You do not have to care about this, spell manages this for you automatically - just remember: Split your book up into the chapters by using top level headlines and do not only use lower level headlines because you like the looks. Looks can be changed by using styles.
All headlines generate entries into the table of contents and can be reached either by a TOC added to the end of your book (in epub3 format only) and by the chapter marks available in most ebook readers.
