Usually not part of the markdown syntax but very usefull for writing longer texts is a comments feature. You can seperate different parts of chapters by comments for internal reference.
// Comments are removed from ebook
Some text of the book.
The Line starting with // is removed from the final EPUB file. Some text of the book stays in the book.
You can also add Comments to the end of lines:
- Item 1 // Internal comment regarding Item 1
- Item 2
Only the part starting with // to the end of the line is removed. Item 1 and Item 2 stay as unordered list in the book, but the comment is removed.
