Minecraft Forge allows mod authors to digitally sign their mod files.

You will see the signature, if you look at a mod's entry under “Mods” in Minecraft's main menu. For the foreseeable future, my mods will use the following fingerprint:

D9:5B:38:8A:FF:8C:C9:4E:89:6A:79:60:E4:89:AD:F0:3F:6E:91:48:3D:4F:71:D5:42:18:2A:DD:01:B1:B5:33

This is NOT a security measure!
With enough malicious intent, jar files can be altered, and fingerprints can be forged. Do NOT install any mod you do not trust!
