Not sure music will work as it's videos, and I'm making an assumption that URLs are images. |
Just letting you know that the way communities are organised in the directory may change. For example I'm thinking of looking into how to split meme category into subcategories to make it easier to browse and maintain. Anime artworks, Music, photography 99% won't be touched though. |
Will probably start with Anime as that's an easy one. |
General art done in #18 |
Photography done in #20 |
Themes & Comics done in #22 |
Should be one post a day now, at various random times. |
Admin contacted me to make sure it was us doing this. Got you approved. |
Yeah, got the approvals quite a lot earlier. |
I'm thinking there are nearly enough categories to make a different post every day for a month, and have monthly posts instead! |
Wait, really? But wouldn't it be too rare though? I will need to look at the categories real quick. (done) Yeah, if we don't bulk some of the categories together we may do monthly. It would also give more attention to niche categories to not be overshadowed by more popular ones from the same section. We will need to discuss how much we will be separating them though because some of them are quite small. At least in the current state. |
We may need to merge some subcategories, and split others. Memes in the current state is HUGE, so that needs splitting up (fnic-lemmy/lemmy-directory#34). If we cover the entire directory then a monthly post every day should be easily doable. |
Move this convo under the issue about the timeline. And yeah, memes is NOT intended to be like that. I plan to split it up into many categories. I just didn't have time yet to do that because there's always something to do. This is also why I put adding new communities on hold and made milestones to reorganise the directory. |
I also think that monthly posts would actually allow communities to get something posted in them to have it displayed in the best of post instead of it just being lists of inactive communities. |
I've created a calendar here to keep track of the schedule: https://use10.thegood.cloud/apps/calendar/p/dFMpSoX7FPf6EyYX |
@chris-y Maybe it would be good to have the calendar in the readme of this repo. |
Added Wallpapers so we are up to a week's worth now. |
Updated first post with a full list of sections. |
This is for GitHub issue fnic-lemmy/bestofbot#7
Don't touch the last 3 top level sections. They're to be split down. Though the hobbies and professions should be easy enough to do even though there's a bit of overlap between them. |
AI and Music need #8 to be completed. From Music I'm planning on only doing a bot for Genres (and maybe General, having looked back at what is in it - I can separate them by two weeks on the monthly schedule) as that should be a nice list of music. Time periods, artists and instruments are all a bit short and won't really work. Maybe if time periods gains some more decades it will be worth doing a bot for that. If I do both I'll put them under the same bot account, as people not liking one probably won't like the other either. |
Well, we don't have to include everything in those posts but if you want to include as much as you can then I will remind about handling multiple categories in one post. |
At the moment I'm doing easy/sensible ones. Once I have tiny sections left I might look at #24 to pick up the stragglers. |
on hold - awaiting directory update as the remaining categories need splitting into subcategories first. |
