Mood Analysis

Last Resort's mood is a very clear futuristic apocalyptic sci-fi(science fiction). In addition, in some levels have sad or epic tones. Obviously, as an arcade game it's made as with pixel art, and as a sci-fi, it have a very important technological theme, so the game shows a lot of spaceships, turrets and robots.

In this game we can see impressive pixel art although for the age the game was released. The atmosphere and graphics we think drink directly of its contemporary pop culture of the 70-90s.

Keeping in mind the clearly storyline of the game plot, we move to a post-apocalyptic-cyberpunk theme and if we compare the other similar games of the moment, this game contrast of the others with one awesome visual section. The plot of the storyline always happens on night and predomine dark tones, perfect to transmit the big danger wich the humanity stands on.

CONCEPT ART

We found what could be called concept art sketches on one japanese game manual pdf, nice draws:

  • Level 1: City Wasteland

The beginning of the game, the middle of the story. The journey starts with you and your ship flying over a highway. Enemies suddenly appear to fight you, shoot them in order to get points and the chance of getting a valuable pick-up which give you weapons boost. You will get a big enemy that appears from the back rather than the sides, this enemy will take you extra time to take down. There are some harmless cars that will provide you extra points If you shot them. Once you get the tunnel, you’ll reach the first checkpoint. Inside the tunnel, the enemies will appear very quickly and it will become crowded very quickly. Some enemies will appear within the air and others from the right side. After a few waves of enemies, you’ll reach the level one mid-boss. The mid-boss is a huge tank, it will fire bullets at you and there will be other enemies that will also try to take you down. After this boss, you will have to battle more enemies until you reach the final level one boss. The final boss consists of a half-destroyed metal skeleton. His most powerful weapon is as well his weakness, an eye located in his crotch. There may be another opponent that comes with the skeleton that will support the metal skeleton.

The second part consists of the city ruins where you’ll find enemies attached to walls besides the common level two enemies and small tank that shoot autotargeted missiles.
