Fix README.md Formatting

While working on issue 735, I found that commit 06c9e25 erroneously removed whitespace necessary for the proper formatting of the README.md. Usually, this is a "feature" of someone's editor to remove blank space at the end of lines and they don't realize they committed the change. This is desirable in some languages, but markdown uses whitespace at the end of lines to control formatting. This pull request restores that formatting, and pulls in one or two other minor changes to the README.md I had made while updating the documentation for pull request 832.
