Changes

Remove numbered comments to enforce a consistent style. Replaced with block comments to separate between sections of code (roughly following Google JS Style Guide, without enforcing it)

lol well I personally still prefer // Step: or // * to this, but I have to practice what I preach and I can't really make an objective argument out of my own personal preference :D

I guess there might be an objective pro/con in the argument that it's not explicitly clear to a dev when to use a 3 line /** vs a 1 line //, since we don't have a style guide and I'm not really arguing that we create one just for this. How would I know as a reader that /** means a larger step in a process? As a writer/reviewer, how would I know to use one vs. the other?

Does that argument hold water, objectively? If it does, then +1 for // Step: (since I think // * suffers from the same fate as /**). Or, // STEP: which is stylistically nice in that it matches // TODO:

Update: Ah, I also just realized that I even confused /* and /** myself in the comment above without realizing it!

@FredKSchott good questions! I believe in a half-measure—we probably don’t need to go to the lengths of making/enforcing a style guide. But I’d like to start off the next branch having one internally (i.e. all comments are consistent).

I think you raised a valid question about “when to use block vs inline” and this PR change doesn’t make it clear. Let me push an update that I hope will address it.

Updated the comments. I realized that some numbers weren’t sections at all and could be reduced to just simply single-line comments (no prefix, because they aren’t particularly significant). But the big blocks in build and dev just got converted to better “oh that makes sense™” block comments

Found a helpful lint rule! This at least enforces a block comment style… for a block comment.

I thought about capitalize-comment as well that enforces capitalization but perhaps another day 🙂 (as someone who likes lowercase comments purely for aesthetics)

lol, actually this might have been really what I was getting at / suggesting! Maybe the real answer here is that numbers/"steps" aren't useful at all, and normal comments suffice.

Do the numbers really give us anything? Seeing this change below:

- // 1. profile startup time
+ /*
+ * Setup
+ * Create the Vite serer in dev mode
+ */

- // 3. add middlewares
+ // middlewares

I'd argue that this change reduced the overall information stored in the comments.

btw +1 on merging this and not spending too much time on it! Instead of being the comment PR nit picker all week I might just create a PR of my own and let you all return the favor :)
