raw AES + CBC is insecure and encryption should be external if you want encryption, wrap imapfs in another fs, like gocryptfs, encfs, etc.

in multiple places, "bytes" was used as the storage type though "str" would
probably have worked. "bytes" seemed the safest and more consistent with
binary files.
mypy --disable-error-code=import-untyped --disable-error-code=return \
