I guess most projects should be getting it from sbt-typelevel?

Actually, no. sbt-typelevel distributes sbt-scalafmt. However, the sbt-scalafmt version is independent of the scalafmt version set in the scalafmt.conf.

For sbt-typelevel to distribute scalafmt updates we would need a scheme like:

Oh, right. I keep forgetting that, but it makes sense from the diffs I'm drowning in.
