This only presented in experimental since I properly fixed the flex layout, but putting the fix in nightly
I've noticed a few instances of a job becoming stuck in a `RUNNING` state (in the DB, not actually stuck). I've traced it to a connection timeout with the DB, so I've converted a few queries to transactions with bumped timeouts to hopefully help

I'm going to try and get a
0.0.3out sometime soon so the version checker fix is part of alatesttag. This PR has a few fixes for some issues I've been able to test out so far
