Conservative update changes shared dependencies when updating just one group #6560

Fixed in #6568. (Resolver was getting this right - it's the inputs to it that were a problem.) |

Respect --conservative flag when updating a dependency group Previously, we were using `Bundler.definition.specs_for groups` to get the list of dependencies to unlock when updating a specific group. That method returns all sub-dependencies for the dependencies in the group, too, which were therefore being unlocked and --conservative was being ignored. This PR ensures `--conservative` is respected for group updates by selecting the dependencies for the group directly from the definition instead. It adds a test to ensure we don't accidentally regress. Fixes #6560.

I am trying to update gems in one group conservatively, e.g. updating test/dev gems without affecting production gems.
When running
bundle update --conservative --group test
, one would expect Bundler to not update any dependencies shared with gems outside of group test. However, --conservative does not seem to have an effect, and all dependencies of group test (even shared ones) also appear to get upgraded.
With this minimal Gemfile (full
bundle env
output in the attached gist https://gist.github.com/oree/a99c26f01d3eb905169e23ac63232d54)Running
bundle update --conservative capistrano
does not upgraderake
, even if a newer rake is available, as expected.Running
bundle update --conservative --group test
does upgraderake
, when it should not, which seems to be a bug?The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
