status field empty

Hello, I'm using contour with the following basic yaml file:

kind: HTTPProxy
metadata:
  name: api
spec:
  virtualhost:
    fqdn: api.site.com
  routes:
    - conditions:
        - prefix: /
      services:
        - name: my-service
          port: 80

I have installed contour helm chat as a dependency to my app helm chart

and when i run k get httpproxies.projectcontour.io i get

NAME   FQDN           TLS SECRET   STATUS   STATUS DESCRIPTION
api    api.site.co                         

as you can see the status is empty, any ideas?
