.. based on the bps speed thus far. I am not sure if this is possible, or if we have discussed it before. It just seems like a nice addition to me.

Yeah, every time I sync I think about the same. Adding this should be fairly simple. However, it will be really inaccurate as syncing is slower because later blocks contain more "work".
