Picture upload fails with HTC Sensation/HTC One SV/HTC One SV LTE #251
Comments
Hi, @fstrohmeier. I don't think the problem is in your device, seems similiar to #166. Could you repeat some of your tests and check the logs of the server side ? |
i have the same problem with my xperia z, Server |
Hello. HTC One M7 - Android 4.2.2 |
Hi, davivel (and all), Debug core include path for class "OCA_FirstRunWizard\Config" starts with "apps/" 30.09.2013 18:06 Sorry, but I don't think it is the server as upload via desktop works fine and, as I described in the documents released on my Skydrive, I even can upload pics from my smartphone after renaming e.g. mypic.jpg to mypic.txt using e.g. Total Commander. After renaming it with the web-interface to my server, displaying and download to desktop end android work fine (the picture is then correclty displayed on the smartphone). I also tried to find someone at HTC for this problem, but without success. For me it seems, after having read lots of postings in different forums, that there is something "special" in the implementation of Android by HTC. Nevertheless, I would appreciate a solution very much as I would like to get rid of cloud services I can't control. Is there a way to create some log-files on my smartphone? I looked for them in the .data folder an the ownCloud folder without any success. Kind Regards, Franz |
@fstrohmeier , do you mean that uploads through the ownCloud Android app work fine when you change the name of the files? Did you try to include in your ownCloud desktop app some file with the same name of the failed uploads in your mobile? Could it be a problem with some specific character in file names? |
there aren't specific character; i've tried to upload image with different size (from 3 MB to 80 KB), owncloud upload the files correctly but receive the message error upload ever. |
@andreasoc , the file is correct in the server? May the error be of a different file? Instant uploads are retried automatically in some conditions, some of them could remain as 'pending to upload' in the local database, but fail once and another if was removed from the local storage. |
Yes! the file is correct in the server but receive the error message ever... |
@fstrohmeier @andreasoc @mxmrtl, Could you please install the new ownCloud Android Client (1.5.0) and let us know if this fix your problems? Thanks in advance. |
i've tried to upload image..fail :( |
No, it doesn't. Massimo Artico Inviato da HTC ----- Reply message ----- @fstrohmeier @andreasoc @mxmrtl, Could you please install the new ownCloud Android Client (1.5.0) and let us know if this fix your problems? Thanks in advance. — |
I have an AT&T HTC One and am also having an issue when trying to upload photos from my android device. I just purchased the application and setup a server but I can not upload photos that are already on my phone. I would love to be able to use the Auto-sync feature eventually, but I wanted to make sure I could at least upload the pictures I have already taken. This feature is VERY important to me in case I lose my phone or it were to be stolen. |
@davivel Sorry for the delayed reply: The desktop app works fine. I only encounter problems with the mobile app on different HTC phones If I try to upload a *.jpg-File in the Android ownCloud app (either via browsing the file system or via option File of other apps via the album), I get an error. After renaming the same file (without special characters in it, these are photos taken by the mobile phone, having the default file naming) using the app TotalCommander eg from 2013-12-14 001.jpg to 2013-12-14 001.txt, the upload works correctly (!!!). I afterwards can rename it in the ownCloud app back to .jpg and it can be displayed, downloaded e.g.(on the mobile and on the desktop app). Therefore, I suppose, Android, especially on HTC, has some kind of "lock" on the jpg files. Neverthelesse, the "sharing" of jpgs works fine with facebook, twitter, skydrive etc. pp. on the mobile. |
Sorry for the unintended closing. |
Error also encountered in a totally new HTC One which I got for Christmas: Same behaviour! |
@masensio Sorry, did not fix the problem, I have installed 1.5.2 now. |
Third Party app: I am testing now Cloudii (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.getcloudii.android ) for a few days and my most wanted feature (automatic upload and therefore backup of my photos to my ownCloud-Server) works perfect. |
Hi, @fstrohmeier . What is the version of your server side? Are the images greater than 1MB? Is the problem happening only with new pictures, or is it the same when you upload a JPG file using the 'Upload' action in the action bar? Thanks. |
Hi, @davivel, kr |
The mobile ownCloud apps use a modified version of WebDAV to make uploads. Both the configuration and the version (due to known bugs) of the server side are very important factors. I would try to update server to a newer version, something past 5.0.12 (I think 5.0.14 or 5.0.14a is the last released 5 version at this moment). What about the other questions? (Sorry, I edited the post after sending it) |
I just upgraded the server side to 6.0.0a -> didn't change anything. Same quite useless ("Upload failed") error messge in the app (which I reinstalled on my smartphone as well). Other questions I didn't have but I would like to repeat that the upload of all file types with the exception of *.jpg works fine with the app and also jpgs can be uploaded if they are renamed to e.g. .txt before. I will continue to use ownClowd via the web interface and the desktop app, but I will wait a few months before I give the Android app another try. kr |
Sorry, I meant the other questions I made you in my previous post about the size of the pictures and about uploading JPG files with JPG extension through the 'upload' option in the main menu. |
@davivel Original name *.jpg: Original name *.mp3: Rename *.jpg to *.txt via TotalCommander Maybe you can provide me with some developer-version which collects a very detailled log. As I am very interested in ownCloud, I would install it, repeat my tests and send you the logs. kr |
Do you have any other DAV client in your device (WebDAV or CalDaV) connected to the same ownCloud account? |
Yes, many i.e. Solid Explorer Massimo Artico Inviato da HTC ----- Reply message ----- Do you have any other DAV client in your device (WebDAV or CalDaV) connected to the same ownCloud account? — |
I do not. I downloaded the app and just enabled the auto upload feature. Didn't work. I also tried manually uploading a pic. Also didn't work. |
Ok. If any of you want, can create a test account in your servers and send the credentials to apps@owncloud.com, so that we can inspect a bit more. Specially @amjiphone , since we have an HTC One to test. |
User created and emailed off. I also added it as an admin just in case you wanted to review settings or what not. There are no files in the software yet so feel free to change anything you need too. |
Oh, I forgot... please, include in the subject 'Android issue #251'. @amjiphone , no need you resend your email, will search by the time. |
@amjiphone , I can't reach your server. Seems it's not well configured. Could you check it, please? EDIT: seems there is some problem with the connection between the web server and the database |
@davivel The only client I use on my HTC One is Cloudii, but it was installed AFTER the failing attempts to upload pictures via the ownCloud App. How this client works internally, I do not know but I logon by user and password and have never entered the WebDAV link displayed in the Administrator section on the Server side. I will provide you with a test account and send you a mail. |
@davivel I apologize. Apparently my MySQL server had crashed overnight. Please try again now. |
@amjiphone, your server seems to have problems wider than what @fstrohmeier describes at the start of this issue. It's very unresponsive, and uploads are not working not just for images, but for any kind of file, both in the Android app and through the web interface. Please, open a different issue to track your problems with uploads and describe them as extensively as possible. @fstrohmeier , uploads to your server are failing for different kind of images, not just JPG files. The server is rejecting these uploads due to lack of permissions, I don't know the exact reason. I will check our test servers to find out if it's a bug in the server side or just a problem in your configuration. On the while, could you check the global setup of your web server? Maybe there is some kind of restriction on the upload of images that we are not taking into account, due to other web apps in your server or some misconfiguration. |
@davivel: I have to confirm that at the moment there seem to be problems with the server. As it is a hosted package, I need some time to clarify that so I would like to ask you to postpone the tests in the meantime. Under the following link, you can find the proof, that upload worked fine with another app in the past: http://sdrv.ms/1dPVxaM (sorry for using a Skydrive-Link for sharing, but I won't publish my private server's address until I am finished with all work). Kind regards, Franz |
Thanks for the update, @fstrohmeier . I'll wait for you tell me more. |
@davivel I will open a new ticket per your suggestion. Could you please let me know what time in EDT you are doing your testing? My servers take a beating at certain times during the day due to other services running on the "server". I am running all of this out of my house and I have no troubles uploading through the web or the Mac client. I am more than willing to shut them all off for a day or so so you can do the testing . I am not experiencing any other issues when I upload though. If you are seeing them I would not know what is causing it. I will investigate though based on your findings. |
Great to read it @amjiphone . Let's wait what else can tell us @fstrohmeier about his problem |
@davivel Dear David, |
Good Day Gentlemen, |
O_o If we need to take care of network providers I will need a gun... |
@fstrohmeier , is this still a problem for you? Thanks in advance. |
Hello, I just installed the latest ownCloud app to my smartphone (I reset the smartphone to factory settings a few weeks ago). After the first tries, I was happy, but then I found out the things being explained in the screenshot enclosed. The error occured as follows: Upload finishes with 100 % but immediately afterwards it says (retranslated to English!): You have no authorization for that folder. I also have to repeat that to my opinion, the reason unfortunately is HTC because I had a problem with another app (my most important one). Discussions in the produder's forum showed that others had the similar problem and with the exception of one, all were HTC users. Since I reset the factory settings of the phone, also this app works again. The HTC helpdesk was of no help, no real solution and when I sent a link to the discussion, I got the answer: We don't read forum postings concerning our products... May I also repeat my offer: If you would like an account on my server again, please give me an info. Also if you want me to install some "developer version" of the ownCloud app that provides you with more detailled information in a log file, don't hesitate to contact me. Kind regards, |
Hi, @fstrohmeier . Could you give another try with the just-released version 2.1.1 of the ownCloud app? You will need to go into "Settings" to select your camera folder in the "Instant uploads" section, that seems to be in "DCIM/100MEDIA" instead of our default "DCIM/Camera". Thanks! |
Hi @fstrohmeier , could you give a new try with the 2.6.0 app we released yesterday? It includes the new Camera uploads feature, which will replace Instant Uploads and will upload automatically your pictures and videos in 15 minutes at most. |
Hello,
Sorry for the late reply. As I do not use this smartphone anymore for now about a year, I can only give the app a try on my new one (Huawei P9). I will do so and give a feedback in a few days.
Kind regards,
Franz

Hi @fstrohmeier , any update on this? |
Hi, @davigonz, sorry no update as I am not using the app anymore. Kind regards, |
Let's close this then, if there's any other issue about that topic, please reopen |
Hi,
may I draw your attention to the following posting http://forum.owncloud.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=12828 which describes in more detail my attempts to upload pictures, especially jpg, to my ownCloud using either an HTC Sensation, HTC One SV and HTC One SV LTE.
The topic of not working immediate uploads is already discussed in some issues.
What faszinates me most is the fact, that upload works after renaming pictures form *.jpg to *.txt for example.
I put a ZIP-File with tests I made and a conversation with ownCloud.org (anonymized) on Skydrive: http://sdrv.ms/17meKLI
Kind regards,
Franz
