Unable to run docker image on M1 mac

Hi All,

MA looks very good and exactly what I'm looking for to have music control in HA!
As I'm running HA Core in venv on an M1 Mac Mini I sadly don't have access to the add-on store. Therefore I tried to install the MA Server via docker like this:

docker run --network host --privileged ghcr.io/music-assistant/server

However this ends with an error shown below:

As I'm not that familiar with docker I'd like to know if this is easily fixable and how?

There is no host networking support on MAC docker so this is a no-go anyways.
If you want to run MA or HA on a Mac, run it either in a python venv (complicated) or Virtual Machine. TIP: You have the UTM virtualizer for M1 macs, it works great

Hi,

Thanks for clearing this out for me.
I've experimented with UTM last year but then it didn't work stat stable. It crashed after testing it for a week or so after which I couldn't repair it anymore. Therefore I went back to venv which isn't preferrable but working at least.

that error is unrelated. should be fixed nevertheless but has nothing to do with running it on mac.
mac does not have host networking support, which is a requirement for the MA container.

Mac is great as development platform but for a 24/7 running HA host its better to choose something linux based, e.g. on a Pi, a NAS or an NUC
