Any plan to fork also Packer to keep it open source? #20
-
Hi there, I know it's about TF here, but Packer is a tool to build virtual machines (VMs) disk images, which is a cousin tool to TF. While Packer builds disk images (Alma Linux, Amazon Linux, etc. with different corporate tools, and using x86 or ARM64), TF will then use them in AWS ASG (Auto Scaling Groups) or GCP MIG (Managed Instance Groups). It's a bit frustrating to sell to a customer a service based on TF, but warning him/her to pay or check with legal if they can use Packer to build the disk images. Question: Considering the points above, is there any plan or thoughts on also supporting Packer as part of this OpenTF initiative? Thanks, |

Hi @samuel-phan, We do not plan to fork and/or maintain other Hashicorp products (like Packer). OpenTF single goal and focus is to keep Terraform under FOSS license. Regards, |
