Add a recommendation to the specification that says that a record should have one or more "describes" (maybe "about" but "describes" seems to be prefered by the SWG) links pointing to the thing(s) that the record describes. Add added bonus of adding this is that someone can convert all these "describes" links to "asset" links in a STAC record.
