  1. Are we sure that user objects are reused enough to make this work? The current user on the request is, I'm sure.
  2. are we not using a real Django cache for expediency, or some other reason?
  3. It's too bad there's no attribute analog to d.setdefault...

  1. It definitely helps when loading a lot of xmodules in a single request
  2. I could see using the django cache, but I wouldn't really want to hit memcache n times during the request either. I guess we could set up an in-memory django cache for it... but it just didn't seem worth it to me. Essentially, the actual db query is small, so I'm not worried about making it on every request, but I don't want to make it many times during a single request
  3. Yes, it is.

@wedaly: The acceptance test failure looks spurious. Can you confirm?

@cpennington The failure is from a new test @sarina merged recently. From the error message, it looks like the test might need to wait for the page to finish loading. @sarina could you please take a look at this?
