Memory hotplug/hotunplug: Memory hotunplug fails with Kernel alert messages while stress running inside the guest. #23
Comments
------- Comment on attachment From pmac@au1.ibm.com 2017-11-07 00:52:02 EDT------- Hot-unplugging memory from a guest will trigger HPT resizing for the guest if the guest has a sufficiently recent kernel (e.g. RHEL or CentOS 7.4). There is a bug in the host handling of HPT resizing which can lead to host crashes and possibly memory corruption. This patch should fix that bug, and so might help with this BZ. |
Syzkaller found several variants of the lockup below by setting negative values with the TUNSETSNDBUF ioctl. This patch adds a sanity check to both the tun and tap versions of this ioctl. watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [ Upstream commit 930651a ] syzkaller reported following splat [1] Since hard irq are disabled by the caller, bpf_map_free_id() should not try to enable/disable BH. Another solution would be to change htab_map_delete_elem() to defer the free_htab_elem() call after raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore(&b->lock, flags), but this might be not enough to cover other code paths. commit 6ac5a11 upstream. Xtensa memory initialization code frees high memory pages without checking whether they are in the reserved memory regions or not. That results in invalid value of totalram_pages and duplicate page usage by CMA and highmem.
