Interface needs to be generalized and must support adding additional attributes:

cmor_field_name
cmor_long_name
cmor_units
cmor_standard_name

@jkrasting jkrasting added this to the CMOR-ization of diagnostics milestone Mar 31, 2015

- As pointed out in mom-ocean#105 by @suyashbire1, the use of SSH based URLs
  for submodules was inconvenient for non-privileged users (those
  without push-rights to NOAA-GFDL repositories) and a barrier to
  users without GitHub accounts.
- Switching to uniformly use the https protocol for submodules
  1. simplifies clone instructions for non-privileged users with
     or without a Github account;
  2. makes the process for users with forks and privileged developers
     the same.
- Closes mom-ocean#105.
