RIO SM Plugin scripts ===================== The plugins in this directory are compatible with the Storage Repository API (see SR-APIv1.0.txt). The agent calls out to the external script and queries the relevant driver as identified by the local host database. In order to maintain synchronisation between the SR and the host database, the SR_get_params and VDI_get_params calls return an sexpression of the objects on disk and their status. Current implementations include: - LVM (LVMSR.py) - Local File Backed (FileSR.py) - NFS File backed (NFSSR.py) In order to differentiate between local and NFS based storage, the device string must be in the format: /path/to/local/SR/directory -> Local File Directory nfs@<IP_target>:/path/to/remote/directory@/path/to/local/mountpoint -> NFS backed directory The XE host must be configured to mount remote targets, i.e. the NFS client must be installed, and the host running portmap. Furthermore, the target must be configured to support a remote attach by the XE host. All SR drivers can be tested and verified independently using the sm frontend included in this directory. The 'sm' script verifies arguments, and calls out to the correct driver subtype. The agent should always call the drivers directly since we trust that arguments are formulated correctly. Code Structure ============== The code has been substantially revamped since the last version. The drivers now make significant use of OO features such as inheritance to make driver prototyping much easier. All argument processing and operation compliance are handled by the base driver code including sexpression generation and error handling. See SR.py for the base SR object class, and VDI.py for the base VDI object class. Todo: - Enable locking in the agent to call out to vdi_lock and vdi_unlock - Add the new NFS-safe lock tool into the file-based SRs - Transition the geneva netapp filer driver to the new interface in order to provide fast clone and snapshot features Test Verification ================= Included in the SM subdirectory are tests that will evolve as the code changes and new drivers are added. The test functionality is the same as for Geneva, but with modified commandline calls for the new API. Any new driver support should be verified against the base test suite (test1.sh) for compliance and any custom tests included in the test directory for automated regression checking. 16th February, 2007 <storage@xensource.com>
