The background color gets inherited by the container that houses each tab. I can't target 3rd party extension tabs because the background-color is set on the parent which uses the same selector for other things.

Someone else reported this issue a little while ago and I passed the issue along to the Pagespeed team to see if they can explicitly set a background color in their css. see #94
