[#2195] avoid using _ in cluster name #2196

Closes #2195

This is a quick'n'dirty fix.
Needs a review by someone able to see if this may have side effects on other things.

Hi @finalspy. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a kubernetes-sigs member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work. Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.

Thanks for the PR! Somehow I thought we'd done this already 😅

We should add a note to the comment about the further restrictions (being valid hostname characters).

Unfortunately AFAIK all PRs to the Kubernetes project do require the CLA, we won't be able to merge until that's fixed 😞
