[Fleet] Testing ticket for new Elastic-Agent package and dashboards

Based on 7.12 and latest registry we have a new package called 'Elastic Agent' installed by default, but it need not be added to any policy. Some initial discussion is here:

A/C or tests we want to run

1. PH notes we could validate the Dashboards. I don't see that the Agents page links to any dashboards. Is this expected? I think it is likely a bug in the new package...
   

2. The package doesn't have an icon, I guess? should we add it now that we have a proper package and it is shipping?
   

3. It is installed by default when Kibana is installed? I didn't see it installed on the 7.12-SNAPSHOT cloud instance i started up... not sure if this is a new concern

Confirming to your observation raised at point 3 for "Elastic Agent" package, we have made same observation that package is available under All integrations [not under installed ones] on 7.12.0 BC-4 Kibana Cloud Environment.

Further , on adding Elastic Agent integration to agent policy, we observed "elastic_agent" filter option is not available under Integration dropdown on Data Streams tab.

That is as expected @amolnater-qasource - it does not create any data, just Dashboards. : / So we can document this is expected.

would you also review if the in-package docs (displayed in the Kibana UI) are adequate for shipping it out? If anything doesn't sound ok to you I can help get any text fixes in.

Thank you for the feedback we have gone through the package docs in Kibana UI and could not found any relevant information as per your feedback on the integration overview page. It would be better if more details are provided for package behaviour like you mentioned: "It doesn't create any data, just Dashboards."

Further as per current scenario we have observed two different observations under 8.0 and 7.12.0 BC-4. Such as on 8.0 even if we don't add Elastic Agent package to any agent policy still a particular datastream is generated with an icon on Data Streams page. Also an additional "elastic_agent" filter option under Integration dropdown.

Could you please confirm if this is going to be expected in future builds.

Further I have a query on Elastic Agent integration overview page that:
we have observed some documented details about metrics to be formed for elastic_agent package as per that following are the metrics:

• core
• process

If anybody could confirm that above metrics will also stream data in any case will be helpful.

I believe the integration will be used, regardless of whether it is in a policy or not, so i makes sense the data_stream would exist as well, regardless. I will let Nicolas comment / follow through on the rest as possible.

@amolnater-qasource if you can re-review behaviors against 7.13 / 7.14 and report back that will be nice.

Final question is for @dedemorton if we want to bother to Document anything about the package and its existence. Users may indeed wonder what the package is.

@EricDavisX We might want to mention in the quick start (and any other docs) where we mention that the System integration is installed by default. Is that what you're thinking? I think it's useful for users to know that agent monitoring is on by default.

@urso Only the elastic_agent.elastic_agent data stream has the icon, not the other elastic_agent.* ones. This is due to the package not shipping all possible data streams, I have this issue tracked here: elastic/integrations#953

I'm closing this ticket as other parts have been addressed.

We have revalidated this issue on 7.13.0 and 7.14.0 Snapshot Kibana cloud environment.

Observations on both the builds are same and listed below:

• No impact of Elastic Agent Integration inside the policy or not in the policy on elastic-agent data under Data Streams tab.
• Elastic Agent icon is only available for "elastic_agent.elastic_agent" dataset under Data Streams tab.
