Guidelines

The project goals and guidelines are outlined as follows:

General

  • simplify and modernize the visual style
  • create a consistent, balanced palette (done)
  • fix flaws eg. blurriness, pixelation
  • use different colours for automation & instrument tracks (see palette)

Plugin artwork

  • SF2 player: revamp the artwork
  • LB302: fix logo, retouch artwork?
  • triple osc: maybe redo logo, increase conrast, retouch? most used plugin, deserves some attention
  • organic: spice up ui, maybe redo logo?
  • plugin artwork does not need to be consistent with the rest of the UI, nor follow the palette - plugins are seen more as standalone devices so they can each have their own style

Icons

  • redo all icons to give a consistent, clean style that fits the new palette
  • replace/redo all icons that are blurry, eg. bb editor icon must go
  • automation & instrument track icons should match the tracks
  • bb track icons should match the bb editor

UI elements

  • redraw all knobs, retouch leds
  • redo transport buttons (consistency)
  • fx leds to match new palette

The idea with the palette mentioned above is that the UI will be consistent. We've come up with a palette for the new UI that maintains the flavour of the old LMMS theme but enables a more modern, simple and balanced colour scheme.

Palette

  • toolbar/main gradient: 98a2a7 -- 5b646f
  • main UI colour (window fill colour): 5b6571
  • common green (sample tracks, waveforms, scopes, green leds, envelopes, beat indicators): 4afd85
  • instrument track colour: 77c7d8
  • automation track colour: 99afff
  • spectrum (peak meters, leds): green -- cae800 -- ff6464
  • buttons: c9c9c9

Icons

The tool button icons are going to have a simple style. No multicolour images, the colours used should be black, grey, and one other - gradients and shadings of the same colour can be used, but sparingly.

I will have some examples of this soon.
