We'll soon do a semver major release 9.0.0 of cucumber-js, which will include these breaking changes:

• Drop support for Node.js 12 and 17 (#2237)
• Remove generator snippet style (#2241)

Not in scope:

• ESM transition - still quite a bit of work to do here, we can pick up in the next major release (we'll have an opportunity in a few months when Node.js 14 is EOL'd anyway).
• Narrow down hook and step typings - needs more work and not urgent.
