- System Restore is a good first step to take when something is majorly wrong in Windows
- It reverts back to a previous save point, undoing software, registry and driver configuration changes that occurred since that save point.
- It's a very simple remedy, and takes anywhere from 10-30 min.
- There are different ways of accessing System Restore, depending on the version of Windows you're running.
- You can actually get a grasp on what software, drivers and additional parts of Windows 10/8/8.1 will be affected by System Restore prior to running it by clicking on "Scan for affected programs" in the System Restore menus.
- The Windows System Restore utility will not affect your non-system files like documents
-
Restore points don't usually need to be created manually. Assuming System Restore is enabled and working properly, Windows, as well as other programs, should regularly create restore points at critical junctures like prior to a patch being applied, before a new program is installed, etc.
