Standard In-data References

Compound astronomical data frequently contains references to other entities within the data set. Examples (with * marking the reference) include "This is an array of errors for *data"; "Individual observations combined into this row are given in *table"; "This column contains errors for values in *column".

Users will want to transparently deal with such references, ideally without being bothered by having to maintain labels themselves.

Incidentally, there are, of course, external references, too, and if a data format can do anything about those, it'd be great.
