This version brings:

  • The ability to run a local ATRAC encoder without any servers or services
  • Full support for Sony Network Walkman devices (Sony HDD and flash-based digital audio players)
  • Many stability fixes regarding HiMD support
  • Complete settings overhaul - ElectronWMD settings are now merged into WebMinidisc's

Local encoder

To switch to the local encoder, first enable it in the settings, then select the two required files from the filesystem.

  • FFMPEG: If you're on Windows, you can get it from here - you need to unpack this archive and select the ffmpeg.exe file. On Linux and Mac, you most likely need to download it by following your distro's instruction, then point to /usr/bin/ffmpeg.
  • AT3TOOL: For Windows users, get psp_at3tool.exe from this project's latest release. Linux users should instead use the at3tool file provided by the psp-sdk on archive.org. Mac users should be able to use wine to run the Windows executable.

Network Walkman support

In order to enable Network Walkman support, the user is required to provide the keyring themselves in ElectronWMD settings - that keyring can be extracted from existing SonicStage installs. It most likely can also be found on Google. After setting it up for the first time, it will be remembered by the app.

What you can do:

  • Upload tracks from PC to NW-HDx devices (only those have been tested for now)
  • Choose between several ATRAC encoding bitrates for the encoding session
  • Access to high quality remote (or local) encoder, as per minidisc recording
  • Supports AT3 (MDLP - 132, 105, 66 kbps) and AT3+ (352, 256, 192, 64, 48 kbps)
  • Edit track names and album metadata before uploading
  • Edit track information on-disk
  • Download tracks from Network Walkmen back to PC
  • Delete tracks singly or with multiple selections
  • Delete all files - i.e. wipe the disk

What you can't do (yet!)

These are not significant limitations but are listed here to confirm things you may find when using EWMD with Network Walkman devices:

  • Cannot use devices like the NW-A3000 (they will be inverstigated later)
  • Cannot upload .mp3 files directly; they will require conversion to ATRAC
  • Cannot upload previously ripped .oma files
  • Cannot edit the on-disk track metadata of multiple files at once
  • Cannot play tracks on device via EWMD controls
  • Cannot use the 'Archive' feature of ripping a whole disk to a .zip file
  • Cannot have more than one instance of EWMD running at the same time.
  • Cannot have fully compatible access to the device via SonicStage and EWMD. The file system is not absolutely compatible between both applications; particularly regarding the 'file delete' operation where tracks deleted in SS may show up in EWMD, or it could break the file system. However, tracks previously transferred to the device via SonicStage should be downloadable by EWMD.
