Hi @XuTingjun, Based on the discussion on #3590 and the description of https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-4730, it sounds like we need to retain these settings for backwards compatibility. |

Since we're not going to break backwards-compatibility, I think we should close this issue. |

First, I think put master/work config into yarn mode is confusion.
Second, it will add the config twice. For example, if SPARK_WORKER_INSTANCES is null and spark.executor.instances isn't null, it will put "--executor-memory" into extraArgs twice.
