Myself and a friend of mine is desperately trying to emulate an iomega zip drive, I stumbled on this project and it made me wonder if it could be a starting point for emulating ide zip drives, any thoughts on the subject?

As you have already stated zip drive interface is IDE. It seems there are
also SCSI versions. Unfortunately my little fddEMU interfaces with FDD
controller.
I found a feature request on [pata-gpio](
Manawyrm/pata-gpio#4) project and from what I
read emulating IDE should be possible with some hard work.
There are already emulators doing IDE emulation using an FPGA [net-ide](
https://hackaday.io/project/20774-netpi-ide). But, where is the fun if you
are cheating with an FPGA.
