Description

Regarding Crowdin, it is not possible to change some strings because "An identical translation of this string has been already saved"
This must be a feature in Crowdin you could disable. There are multiple strings that are the same but for different parts of the UI.
I really need to clean up some bad translations of a previous translator.

Crowdin is trash platform, use transifex.

That error should only appear when trying to add a suggestion/translation that already exists exactly as-is, not when trying to edit one string that has duplicates elsewhere in Crowdin. What are you exactly trying to do here?

Crowdin does not allow you to use the same string if it has ever been used before. First you have to delete the old string and then write a “new” one. This is of course impossible if the string belongs to another person and was written years ago, so the new one will not be accepted, because it already exists in history. This is a complete mess in the database, as if the string was the key of some SQL table, just like in Steam, where to this day the login is unchangeable because it is used as a key. These are the mistakes of a first-year computer science student.

If a translation already exists and has enough votes to be considered of highest priority, the only way to fix the situation would be becoming a proofreader. That way you could overrule what's on Crowdin.

But you should speak with the core dev teams and explain why the existing translation is bad in extensive detail (it is quite easy to say any translation is bad, we have already seen quite a number of examples, both inside and outside PCSX2).

Who, besides the translators, looks at these files? Who plays with some kind of voting - this is not an election. Translation is translation, it's supposed to go smoothly and correctly, and the platform is supposed to make it possible. For example, I have in one app an erroneous translation from 6 years ago and I can't replace it, because part of the strings is correct and part is not, which means that “such a translation already exists”. Contact with Crowdin devs does not exist, inconvenient posts in this topic they block - they know very well that this is pure chaos. Generally as I see the Crowdin platform I do not take up translation at all, it's a waste of my time.

The error is because that exact translation has already been submitted. If it is the most suitable translation, then you should vote for it. This reads as though unilateral control over translations is what people want, and we are not doing that. Please vote on translations, or provide better ones.
