The analcalc jobs fail in C96C48_ufs_hybatmDA when running with GSI_utils at dd37ccc. This was discovered by automated g-w CI testing of g-w PR #3206.

The structure of GSI and GDASApp based atmospheric analysis increments differ. GDASApp increments are dimensioned (time, lev, lat, lon) whereas GSI based increments are dimensioned (lev, lat, lon).

Earlier hashes of GSI-utils worked with both sets of increments.

This issue is opened to document this problem and its resolution.

Work for this issue will be done in bugfix/delp_inc

@DavidNew-NOAA : you are working on a refactoring of atmospheric ensemble recentering in GDASApp. I think this refactoring will also include computation of the atmospheric analysis. Is this correct?

I ask because your refactoring may remove the need for us to use GSI-utils executable calc_analysis.x in GDASApp based DA.

@RussTreadon-NOAA Indeed, my plan is to have the analysis computed in the atmanlfv3inc job using the JEDI fv3jedi_fv3inc.x utility (with some modification)
