Could it be possible to add markers to the timeline? Possibly on a separate timeline bar. Allowing to name the markers and change their colors would be great.

I would recommend to keep away from too many bars. Everyone (even you unfa!) has been complaining that the bars already use too much space. Personally... it's ok...

I thought about this because Ardour does it this way. I think the bar
should be hideable anyways.

I honestly feel like this would be a great thing to add to lmms, as long as the markers bar can be easily hidden. I have encountered so many moments where my life would have been so much easier with this.

when is this coming to LMMS?

When you start writing it. 😃

More likely after the 2.0 release. But as Stian said, we don't know.

Some thoughts from @musikBear: (edited for formatting, etc)

LMMS currently has 3 modes for playhead position behavior. (the 3 names are horrible btw)

Bookmark can be a great addition. A mock-up could look something like this:

pastenot

  • (1) is a controller for the feature.
  • (2) is a marker

Piano Roll would work as a series of 'jump to position' points
Song Editor could also work as project structure points

UI

  1. The controller(s)
  • Left Mouse: Insert a point at playhead position.
  • Left Arrow + Left Mouse Button: Browse through point from playhead-pos to the left.
  • Right Arrow + Left Mouse Button: Browse through point from playhead-pos to the right.
  • Right Mouse: Open list of points (default just numbered) - A click moves view to that point.
  1. The markers
    • Left Mouse Button: Name point.
    • Right Mouse Button: Remove point.

As part of a pruning effort, this enhancement request is archived into a dedicated "Better Workflow" checklist here #4877.

This issue is closed? I had a hope that I might not need ableton live. I want to express a very important use for markers.

  1. For live purposes it would completely help on an issue.
If those markers can be mapped to a midi controller to a pad⬜🔳and if the marker were called verse 1 if I were in chorus and wanted to go to verse 1 I just press the pad on my midi controller triggering lmms to go back to verse 1
  2. A suggestion ever since I got lmms I've been using a BB line editor track as a marker indicator I would make an empty track and begin to make individual "markers then color and name them according into which track they were on.
    P. S. I'm new to github and I don't know how to post pictures. I know I know that sounds kind of weird but I just signed up like a few minutes ago.

I hope I can get responses from you all even though this subject is closed
You see I'm too into lmms with over 40 projects to jump to another daw that is less stable, not easy, and simply not... not my thing. Of course that is in my condition with my laptop that lmms works better Than ableton live.

@CreativitySceanes Tresf's comment gave the reason for why it's closed. It was moved/combined into #4877. It is still a valid feature request and is still effectively "open", just in a different location.
