Minimum Requirements

Before you can run FreeSO Launcher, you must make sure you meet these minimum requirements:

  • Operating Systems: Windows 10 and up or Mac OS X 10.15 (Catalina) and up.
  • An active internet connection.
  • Ability to reach Archive.org (to test, open this URL: www.archive.org)
  • At least 3GB of free disk space.

Unsupported?

If for whatever reason you cannot run the launcher, please check out these alternative ways of installing FreeSO:

  • Installing FreeSO on Mac (manually) - The same steps apply for Linux.
  • Installing FreeSO on Windows (manually): See below.

Installing FreeSO on Windows (manually)

To install FreeSO on Windows without using the launcher because your PC is unsupported, you’ll need to download four things:

  1. .NET Framework 4.5: if you’re unsure if your .NET framework version is up to date, update here.
  2. OpenAL, which can be downloaded from here. Use the OpenAL 1.1 Windows Installer (zip).
  3. The Sims Online, which can be downloaded from here.
    • To install The Sims Online, you must extract the downloaded zip using an extraction tool. 7Zip is recommended.
    • Once extracted, you must run The Sims Online setup Setup.exe
    • Wait for the installation to finish (look at the progress bar), then close the installer.
  4. FreeSO Client, which can be downloaded from here.
    • Once you’ve downloaded the client files, extract them somewhere (preferably C:\Program Files\FreeSO) and run the FreeSO.exe executable by right clicking it and Run as Administrator.
