IFRA-Cranfield: Intelligent Robotics

This course provides key insights into Industrial Robotics and Machine Learning. It will give hands-on practical exposure and a real understanding of how to apply artificial intelligence to automated processes using industrial robots.

About

Short Course Information

  • Dates: TBD.
  • Duration: 2 days.
  • Location: Cranfield University (Cranfield Campus, MK43 0AL)
  • Course Description: This two-day course is presented through a mixture of lectures, workshops and discussion of case studies. Active participation from the delegates is strongly encouraged particularly during the whole course to consolidate learning. All delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of this course. This course provides essential knowledge on advanced industrial robotics, mechanics and kinematics, control, and the application of inbuilt intelligence to allow robots to learn from their environment or existing data. It will also provide an overview of robotics ethics and standards giving the delegate an insight into the social impact of advanced robotics. It is equally suitable for engineers new to robotics or for more experienced engineers aiming to expand their knowledge of more complex concepts such as kinematics and machine learning.
  • Core Content:
    • Basics of Industrial Robotics
    • Key technologies
    • Kinematics of Industrial Robots
    • Industrial Automation
    • Practical tasks around Kinematics and Control
    • Robot Standards and Ethics
    • Machine Learning

Robot Control through ROS2: The theoretical concepts to be explained and discussed throughout the short course will be enhanced by different practical tasks around Robot Simulation, Control and Integration, which will be accomplished by employing a common ROS2 Environment. At IFRA-Cranfield, we use ROS2 for the Simulation and Control of different Robot Cells (Industrial & Collaborative).

Intelligent Flexible Robotics and Assembly Group (IFRA-Cranfield)

The IFRA (Intelligent Flexible Robotics and Assembly) Group is part of the Centre for Robotics and Assembly at Cranfield University.

IFRA Group pushes technical boundaries. At IFRA we provide high tech automation & assembly solutions, and we support smart manufacturing with Smart Industry technologies and solutions. Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) are a clear example. They can improve overall operations and throughput quality by adapting to real-time changes and situations, supporting and pushing the transition towards flexible, intelligent and responsive automation, which we continuously seek and support.

The IFRA Group undertakes innovative research to design, create and improve Intelligent, Responsive and Flexible automation & assembly solutions, and this series of GitHub repositories provide background information and resources of how these developments are supported.
