The flood warnings API can be used by partner organisations providing services for the Environment Agency.
Use this Wiki to find out how to:
- request access to the API
- use the API to get flood warning data
Live flood warning information for England is available from the Environment Agency, showing the current status of flood warnings, plus real-time information and advice issued by the Agency’s Duty Officers.
Flood warning information can be retrieved from the API once per minute. More frequent requests must not be made.
The flood warnings API does not include geometry for the warning areas. This is supplied as part of the Environment Agency's regular data update process, currently 4 times per year. Users of the flood warning API will also require the data showing the geographic areas covered by the flood warning areas.
Note: Severity values issued from the Flood Warning System (FWS) are different to those used in current fwis.xml. Values in the flood warnings API are aligned with those in FWS. The new values are:-
1: Flood Alert 2: Flood Warning 3: Severe Flood Warning 4: Warning No Longer in Force
