We should match up with was was allowed in D7 for continuity and migration purposes :

txt
pdf
doc
docx
odt
ppt
pptx
pps
ppsx
odp
xls
xlsx
ods
rtf
mp3 (still getting clarification on if we use and want to continue to allow this one)
tex
ltx
