Could we have an option to treat NL as CRLF? The ESP8266 produces startup and other reports with NL only so they don't format well on the Telnet clients I have (Windows and iTerminal on iPadOS).
Telnetspy is an excellent product! I use it all the time for my ESP8266-based IoT things which are placed in some inaccessible locations.

At the moment I don't have the time to continue working on the software. Under Windows you could use PuTTY: There you can configure this behavior (Configuration / Terminal: 'Implicit CR in every LF').
