Bug Description:

"Sorry, we are unable to process your payment at this time. Please retry later." notice is displayed for failure cards on "Checkout" page when updated checkout experience is enabled.

Environment:

Woocommerce Version : WooCommerce 8.6.0
WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway: v8.0.0-test-2
Wordpress version: v6.4.3

PC:
Windows 10,
Chrome(Version 121.0.6167.185)
Firefox(Version 122.0.1)

Steps To Reproduce:

1. Create any test site.
2. Install and activate all the required plugins.
3. Upload and activate the WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway v8.0.0-test-2 plugin.
4. Complete the setup wizard.
5. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Stripe — Credit Card (Stripe).
6. Enable the test mode and set up the API keys and webhook secret in the plugin settings.
7. Go to Stripe settings > Settings tab > Advanced settings.
8. Check off the checkbox labeled "Enable the updated checkout experience" and save.
9. Go to the store page, add a product to the cart and proceed to checkout.
10. Checkout with any checkout failure card (ex. 4000000000009995)
11. Observe that "Sorry, we are unable to process your payment at this time. Please retry later." notice is displayed for failure cards.

Actual Result:

"Sorry, we are unable to process your payment at this time. Please retry later." notice is displayed for failure cards on "Checkout" page when updated checkout experience is enabled.

Expected Result:

For Checkout failures (with various cards) testing, valid error message should be displayed on "Checkout" page when updated checkout experience is enabled.

• I have deactivated other plugins and confirmed this bug occurs when only WooCommerce plugin is active.
• This bug happens with a default WordPress theme active, or Storefront.
• I can reproduce this bug consistently using the steps above.
