You can find some helpful documentation here about how to connect with client-server and also with
VNC: https://visit-sphinx-github-user-manual.readthedocs.io/en/develop/tutorials/RemoteUsage.html

I would recommend trying client server first, but if that doesn?t work then try the VNC route.

Hi Tim,

My assumption is that the user is running on an virtual Windows 10 system and is trying to run
client/server from that to an RZ system.

Assuming I?m correct, there could be a few things causing this problem. The rzgw has gone away, so
perhaps his host profile is referencing that. Another possibility is that he is using an old version
of VisIt that had a bug if the user had to change his username for the remote system when running
client/server.

It would be useful to confirm that he is on Windows 10 and also know what version of VisIt the user
is running.

Hello, I am attempting to run Visit locally on my AWS virtual machine as running Visit on LC has
been extremely slow and hindering my workflow. When I go to connect to an rz machine from the
instance of Visit running on my machine a window titled 'metadata server launch progress' shows
after entering my password and does not ever make a connection. I am sure this is somehow related to
the AWS as my mentor has been able to connect to the same machine from on-site and this issue has
persisted for a couple weeks.

Hi Blake,

Only the first method, Using x display forwarding, will cause this slow down you?re talking about.
The other two methods, Running client/server and VNC client, should not have this problem. Please
take a look at that part of the tutorial and let me know if that works for you.

Thank you for the quick response and the resources. I?m trying to avoid logging into and running
Visit on the machine as it has been pretty slow. My mentor recommended this method to try to avoid
the slow response.
