<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/mf/5609.0">5609.0 Housing Finance</a>: Australian Bureau of Statistics dataset based on records from financial institutions and regulators.</li>
<li>Provides monthly records of loan commitments related to housing.</li>
<li>Changes over time indicate trends in economic activity and in the housing sector.</li>
<li>Records (except in earlier years) provide a breakdown of lending:
<ul>
<li>by borrower type (owner-occupier vs property investor)</li>
<li>loan purpose (construction of new housing, purchase of existing house, refinancing, etc.)</li>
</ul></li>
</ul>
<p><em>Exploring the Housing Finance dataset allows us to draw conclusions about trends in housing activity and the changing nature of the housing market, and to consider the implications for housing policy.</em></p>
