Some of the outstate map zoom levels are pretty useless. For example:
Not a high priority, but a couple potential solutions:
If a lat/lon is outside some bounding box established around the metro area, use a wider default zoom (9? 10?)
Manually set zoom levels on each map (a pain, but I can do the legwork if you have a tech solution to integrate it)
Set a slightly wider zoom level for all maps
Suppose it comes down to what these maps are for. To me they just offer a bit of geographic context, which is different in the metro vs. outstate, which is why the first solution might be the easiest.
But like I said, low priority.
