See discussion here: https://code.google.com/p/spyderlib/issues/detail?id=809 The main interest I see in such a feature is that it can be an easy way for the user to test a script outside Spyder, in order to check if it works exactly the same or not (Spyder has its own PYTHONPATH variable and depending on the Console settings, the Python interpreter may be a little bit tweaked).
