New Project not getting created

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Install Spyder on Macbook Air MD760HN/B, running OS X Mavericks
   1. Create a project from 'File' option in menubar at top
   2. The window disappears before even selecting the default workspace folder for the first time

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Please provide any additional information below

. Tried creating a project for the first time. On being prompted 'The current workspace has not been configured yet. Do you want to do this now?', clicked 'Yes'. The new window for selecting folder disappeared after few seconds.

Projects are being reworked by @goanpeca right now, so we are leaving this for our next major release.
