Check

SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'char%'; SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'collation%';

if you have latin1_swedish or smth like that in outputs,
consider instructing your server to use utf8 as a default instead. (Reasonable in 2020)

mysql_collation.cnf

[client]
default-character-set=utf8

[mysql]
default-character-set=utf8


[mysqld]
collation-server = utf8_unicode_ci
init-connect='SET NAMES utf8'
character-set-server = utf8
