Twitter offers application-only authentication now for some endpoints that only require the consumer tokens from which a bearer token is obtained for access. Is this something in the works or being planned?

We are partially there: see #372 and #367, but still more work to do to fully support app-only auth.

+1 What else is required except for invalidate_token?
