Current definition: "Base class for units which can be converted. The primitive units can be converted from one measurement system to another; the complex units (ratio or product) have to decompose to their primitives."

This looks like a definition of unit of measure.

GOod point. How about something like this:
A quantity consisting of a unit of measure and a number.
Examples: 3 milligrams, 107 degrees F, 80 miles per hour

Another suggestion:
The size, degree, quantity, or extent of something, expressed as a number and a unit of measure.

I like this.

I find this a bit confusing, the size of something is expressed as a quantity, as it the extent. Degree is informal unless you mean out of 360. How about:

skos:definition "A quantity consisting of a unit of measure and a number."^^xsd:string ;
skos:scopeNote "A quantity may be used to record the results of a measurement or to specify what is promised or needed."^^xsd:string ;
skos:example "The magnitude, '3 meters' is the measured length of my car.
The magnitude, '7 lumens' is the amount of light that this bulb is supposed to produce.
The magnitude, '12 acres' is the minimum size of lot I want to buy."^^xsd:string ;
  • `A quantity consisting of a unit of measure and a number.

That sounds good to me, @uscholdm.

It currently includes Precision also.

@uschold OK with me if we can remove commas after "The magnitude".

@philblackwood AFAIK a gist:Magnitude doesn't include precision. Or is that in your proposed model?

Yes it does.

Are saying you recommend removing the commas or just that its ok of someone else recommends doing so? If you prefer, that's fine with me.

My comment was ambiguous because I omitted a comma after "me." Yes, I do recommend removing the commas.

Re precision: my mistake. I didn't realize it was there because I've never used it.
