Fluid and whitewater particles stick to obstacles when friction is 0 (Experimental v9.0.5.3) #436

System Information

Blender Version: Blender 2.79 and 2.80
FLIP Fluids Version: 9.0.5.3 (Experimental)
Operating System: Windows, MacOS, Linux

Description

In the experimental version we have been experimenting with new ways to handle collisions and improve collision handling with thin obstacles. A side effect of these changes is that particles can become stuck to the walls of the domain or to obstacles.

Another side effect of particle sticking to obstacles is that simulation involving animated/keyfamed obstacles can lead to severe fluid loss. See this comment for an example .blend file: #326 (comment)

Note: this issue is not relevant to viscous liquids. At the moment, viscous liquids sticking to obstacles is expected behaviour even when friction is set to 0.

At the moment we are testing some fixes for these issues. These issues must be fixed before releasing the next stable version (v1.0.5).

There is no known workaround for this issue at this time. If you require particles not to stick to surfaces, it is suggested to use the latest stable version of the addon (v1.0.4a).

Fixes seem to be testing well. This fix will be included in the next version update (1.0.5 or 9.0.5.4).
