Find someone to create a nice application icon. Minimum sizes of 256x256, 128x128, 32x32, and 16x16. 512x512 preferred.

Ideas welcome

What do you think of these:

ricochet-32
ricochet-128
ricochet-256
ricochet-512

I actually like the simplicity of this even more. I think I was getting a bit too fancy trying to make the Ricochet look like an "R".

I like the fact that it looks like a tick.

I'll have a go at redrawing it in vector, then scaling it down to 16x16 pixel... make something work at that size.

Cool! Thanks for working on it.

If it helps, the most important part is an application icon for menus/docks/files that looks good in 32x32 through 128x128. Second to that, we need website resources like full-size logos.

For the application icon, most modern ones are borderless, complex shapes. Useful resources:

@special

I was so bored so I have tried to make an OldStyle Logo, borderless and a little bit complexer with Effects and more result is here.

This is currently 500x500 if you need the PSD file, tell me :)

UPDATE
I have also created a banner :) Here is the result:

the check & envelope is really nice. what if you put a small IM on the envelope itself? just my two cents

+1 for @mva1985 suggestion. I was thinking similarly... envelopes kinda imply 'email', but a talk bubble is often associated with IM.

@special I'll pitch in if you want to host an open contest for this at 99designs or similar (like StackOverflow did).

I'm sure others would too.

I am thinking maybe keep it flat like most modern designs at the moment

So I was thinking why not stick with something field tested. Other encrypted instant messengers like to use a talk bubble in combination with a padlock as their logo (compare ChatSecure, Threema or Tox). May be something like this?

I know this is not at all professional, and I did this in mspaint, while buzzed. But I feel like this is a pretty neat idea... http://imgur.com/ITrqsx6

How about something like this?

I'd still need to scale it, and the ovals are too short, and the shadows. Idea came from Yosemite's Messages app.

@ambrosechua Awesome!

@ambrosechua that is amazing, I would love to see a flat version of this too without the shadows and gradients from the bubbles to see which one i prefer :)

@ambrosechua very nicely done, but I don't think we could use it as-is: The Tor Project prefers to not have third party projects using their logo, to avoid confusion. The use of the colors is nicely done, and they should be fine.

With the right graphic instead of the onion, that's a very strong concept. Hmm.

@special Sure. I'm gonna post some possible drafts.

This design was sent to me privately; I didn't share it until now because I wasn't certain of the author's preference for licensing and attribution.

I've also unilaterally (rudely?) decided to start using it (PR #134). The upcoming release needs some more visual flair behind it, and this is a decent start.

I appreciate all the ideas here, and anyone looking for a place to use their artistic talents should stay in touch! OSS never has enough of it.

Very compressible (into a flat favicon, for example) and seemingly unique. I like it. Anything trying to replicate the semantics of the name too closely would have a really hard time coming out as simple, so I guess it's indeed a decent start. Congrats to the author =)
